5 Reasons to get a Samoyed!

You are looking for a fluffy friend to join you. You came across this fluffy land cloud and it is radiating pure joy. You’re almost sold… but still need a little convincing soooo here are your 5 reasons to get a Samoyed!

1. Samoyeds have the kindest soul!

Did you know that Samoyeds were originally bred to keep children warm in the cold of Siberia. Imagine being a toddler huddled up between a Samoyed’s fur! That close bond with humans made it into their DNA. They became the gentle and kind companions that we know today.

Just typing this makes me want to go cuddle Matcha! Brb.

While I have more of a hyperactive personality, my partner is calm and grounded. Matcha meets us exactly at our level. Even as a puppy, Matcha endures my spontaneous cuddle attacks and deals with my high emotions like a champion. She’s never given me or anyone, adult or child, any negative reaction.

2. Samoyeds are easy to train!

Samoyeds are really smart dogs and they are easily trainable once you bond and bring along some treats! In our case Matcha learned the standard commands such as sit, down, paw, here, stay… within the first month she joined us.

We also gave her a couple of buttons. She uses them to communicate her needs. For example, she presses “outside” when she needs to go potty and “water” when her bowl is empty. We add them as we see the necessary but not planning to train her to communicate full sentences on the buttons – yet 😅

3. Samoyeds have the perfect balance of clingy vs. independent!

This is what I really love about Samoyeds! They can be very sticky and be around you all day – with pleasure! But they can also be independent and chill by themselves.

Matcha likes to be around. During the day, she will lay on the couch with us or sit around our feet. When it’s past her bed time, she likes to sleep on the cool tiles in the kitchen.

She is crate trained – it’s the best thing a puppy parent can teach their pup! When we go out, we leave her in the crate with her toys. She plays then takes a nap until we get back.

4. Samoyeds are naturally clean and odorless

This one was a surprise to me too! The Samoyeds’ double coat acts as a natural barrier over their skin. The odor-making bacteria don’t get anything to live on. As a result, Samoyeds are odorless and your house will not have a “dog smell”.

Another magical thing is their fur. I have seen enough videos of dogs rolling dirt and mud. And I thought ohhh that would be a pain to clean on Samoyeds! Well, I was wrong. With Samoyeds, the trick is to wait for the dirt to dry -or use a dryer. Then you can brush it all off! I don’t know the secret behind it but they stay squeaky clean if you give them a good brushing.

5. Samoyeds can adapt to different life styles

Whether you live in an apartment, or a house with a garden. You like to go on long hikes or prefer to stay home most of the time. Living with a family or living alone. Have kids, other animals, parties, outings… Samoyeds can literally adapt to any of these environments!

I work from home most of the time, so our days are calm. But over the weekends we go out with friends and Matcha comes along! She loves the weekends with her baby cousins, she enjoys being around my lovebirds. It takes her only a couple minutes to open up in a new environment. And once she’s warmed up, she loves being the center of attention 💖
