Horray!!! 🎉 You’re about to become a puppy parent!
Whether you’re getting a tiny toe biter or a fluffy cloud like Matcha, your first days together will be important to build a trusting relationship while making sure the puppy had everything they need.
Here’s a puppy checklist of what to prepare, so you can enjoy uninterrupted quality time when the puppy arrives!
✅ Crate and/or Playpen
Like most pet owners, I strongly recommend crate training your puppy instead of giving them access to all parts of the living space.
My previous dogs (a Cocker American and later a Husky) were never crated and have caused many troubles when left alone to their devices in the day and and while we sleep at night. We have trained Matcha to stay in her playpen and sleep in the crate at night from day one and we couldn’t be happier. It provided her with a safe space to retreat when she’s tired. We even extended her crate with the playpen and we call it her “bedroom” now. 😄

Her crate is from Designed by Lotte while her playpen fences are from Amazon. You can find the links below 👇

✅ Collar, Harness, Leash
The time old question: should I use a collar or a harness for my dog? She says harness, he say collar, the kennel said “none” because their fur…
Unfortunately, there’s no correct answer and it’s all up to you. Samoyeds are relatively big and strong dogs. And they will not be shy to pull you in the direction they want to go. Personally, I prefer a mix of both. We use a collar at all times with a name tag and an air tag. And a harness whenever we are going out.

✅ Grooming Tools
How to keep a keep a samoyed clean you ask? Keeping a Samoyed fluffy like a cloud takes some work! But worry not, with a little bit of time and the right tools anyone can do it!
You’ll hear Samoyed owners say “just dry it then brush it off” and they are absolutely right! Samoyed’s magical fur cleans itself, as long as the mess is dry. So if your Sammy has rolled in the mud, you’ll need a high velocity dryer. Otherwise, it will take an eternity to dry your fluffy friend!
Dropping a link below for the dryer that we use for Matcha! More quiet compared to other brands, gives you speed and temparature control + has different muzzles you can pick from. You can see how Matcha enjoys it below!
